Keeping Your Pearls As Your Forever Jewelry

If you own pearls, then you’ll want to maintain them so that they will last for generations – even for forever!

Here’s what I recommend that you do to maintain your pearl investment:

1. After each wear, wipe your pearls with a soft, damp cloth to ensure that they remain free of harmful substances that could damage the pearl’s nacre, which is the inner iridescent layer of oyster shells (also known as “mother of pearl”).
2. Keep your pearls stored separately from any of your hard jewelry like bracelets and rings. This will prevent them from getting scratched.
3. It is also helpful to store your pearl jewelry in a soft-lined jewelry box or in a soft-cloth pouch. DO NOT EVER store your pearls in any sort of airtight environment like a ziplock bag. Pearls are organic and contain a small amount of water, if you store them in an airtight container, they may become brittle and their luster will be compromised.
